Why Wellness?

During my childhood, I found a Red Cross First Aid book in Granny's dresser. I think it came from the days when my uncle was Civil Defense Director of our county. I asked to keep the book and she let me take it home.  I took it to school and showed my friends what to do if you had a laceration or an abrasion.  I felt very prepared for an emergency.  Mind you, I wasn't the kid who cut her Barbies' hair... I was the one who gave all mine smallpox shots, so they had big blue "scars" on their arms.

Granny had six sisters who were all wonderful ladies. One had a very interesting health textbook at her apartment. Another had a subscription to a magazine called Family Health. It was geared toward a mature reading audience, but as a good reader, I really got into the scholarly articles.

I still didn't see myself having a career in healthcare until I was old enough to drive and got a part-time job at the local drugstore. I thought maybe my calling was to be a pharmacist.  God had other plans for me (and I am thankful that he did).  I ended up becoming a nuclear medicine technologist.  That provided me with a good living until one day it didn't.  Then I became a health science teacher, because I believed healthcare is still a good field to get into.  Later I got a chance to go back to nuclear medicine on an "as-needed" basis, which got my foot in the door.  I could still substitute, and I taught CPR. I was used as a "warm body" to help in case of an emergency in MRI, and I decided to look into certification in that area. Fast-forward through a year or so of learning on-the-job and helping out in outpatient MRI to my juggling nuc med with MRI and CPR for a couple of years. Finally, I applied for a full-time position that had opened up at the research MRI facility where I'd been working PRN, and I started working in that job in January 2020.

In March 2020, COVID-19 struck and our facility (mostly) shut down for a few weeks. During that time I did a LOT of continuing education activities when I wasn't participating in other work from home, and I suddenly found myself with a lot of health information I didn't already know. When we went back to work, we rotated work days, which still left me with a lot of time to work from home, so I continued to educate myself. After a few more weeks of this, I had completed most of the tutorials out there, and a lot of the information I hadn't seen yet wasn't as current. I decided to use the websites I have to share some of my MRI knowledge with my peers as well as the general public. So, in connection with my Ridgetop College of Trivial Knowledge, I have wellness information to share. I AM NOT A DOCTOR AND THEREFORE, I DO NOT OFFER MEDICAL ADVICE. These sites are for information and education only.
